The elusive 'UTAU Game™' (idea thread)

So something that I've noticed recently is that every few months for about 4 years now, someone pops up to announce that they're making an UTAU game, and that they need help to do so. This garners a bit of attention, and some people offer to join the OP in the creation of it, a few weeks go by, and suddenly everyone involved goes silent and it's immediately forgotten about. This is pretty common, and a lot of people have done it (hell, i've even done this exact thing before).
My theory as to why this happens is because there is zero direction put into these would-be games. "UTAU Game" sounds like a lot to go off of, until you realize that many UTAUloids exist in their own, separate universes and don't usually have anything to do with one another. There isn't one coherent 'UTAU universe' that all vb characters belong to.

So I guess what this thread is for is to share what you'd look for in an UTAU game, making this a sort of resource for the next few batches of people who are looking to develop their own UTAU game, but don't have anything figured out past the vague concept.

Personally, I think a rhythm game where you collect different UTAUs and group them into small parties to sing together would be fun, and would probably have a ton of replayability, too, since there are about... 6,500+ ? different UTAU voicebanks/characters at this point.
Alternatively, maybe instead of singers, each character is a different class with their own unique abilities, and you gather 5 or so to battle different enemies.

Share you thoughts, though! I'm curious to see what you guys think.

The idea of an UTAU video game sounds pretty cool, but, as you said, that basically means including thousands of unrelated, individual OCs in a single universe; it doesn't work well.

Personally, I think a scifi music-based RPG with character customization would be the way to go, where the player can simply insert their own UTAU or other OC into the game, rather than the devs struggling to include as many as possible. I say scifi mostly because, well, singing synths ARE pretty common in science fiction, not so much in other genres.

I think a fighting game would be cool, because you can have any OC fight each other from other universes and things, like super smash bros does. The rhythm game idea's not bad, either. I think if you were to do a story based game, you'd have to get in contact with the creators of the utaus to understand their ocs backstory and personality, possible powers and all of that before you could do something like that. I've always liked participating for utau games like that, because Ankoku is a villain and people usually need more villain types since most utaus are usually decent characters. Idk, sometimes it's fun having the butt characters lmao.

i honestly don't think I would care what kind of game it was as long as you could insert your own UTAU/OC in it, because, as previously mentioned, it's a lot easier on the devs and everyone else involved that way.

sorry for necro'ing this thread, I know it's a lil old but I think it's a p interesting topic

I know it would never really happen, but I would love to see an IDOLM@STER type video game featuring UTAU? So you have a set of UTAU characters, a set of songs, and then you can mix and match who sings it, how many singers there are, the costumes, ect. The only thing is that in a game like that you'd probably have to make UTAU specifically for the game, or use some of the reaaally popular ones, when I think the main appeal of an UTAU game would be that people would be able to insert their own characters, so.. It's like, I can't really justify why it should be an UTAU game, as opposed to just another rhythm game with human singers, lolol

But, on that note, if there were to be an UTAU-themed game, I can definitely imagine an OSU-type rhythm game ordeal where players submit their own levels/beatmaps/the like for others to play, or something like that, or, like other people were discussing, a fighting game where you can create custom characters for your personal UTAU, download custom characters, ect.
Tl;dr, since a big appeal of UTAU seems to be the ability to make your own, I think if an UTAU game were to exist it'd probably follow the same principle?

to be honest you probably could mod the character text info and sprites if any 2d options at least

Ahem, anyway
I'd like to think that an UTAU game would be similar to a game that was on nintendo switch (and steam, i think?) called Dawn Of The Breakers but with a rhythm game aspect
So, you'd gacha for new characters (UTAUs, in this case) and different UTAUs would have different rarity and skills based off of a number of things (such as popularity, lol) to increase your combo
so you could build a little team of UTAUs to help multiply your score, or something
idk, i find an UTAU video game a fun topic and a game i'd pour a lot of time and/or money into
