Is it necessary to oto your voicebank?

I'm new to the whole Utau thing and I hope to make a CV and maybe even a VCV and an English voicebank. But do you have to oto your voicebank? I've watched multiple tutorials and I still don't understand how to do it. So is it possible for me to skip this part? I would just ask someone to do it for me but I don't have anything to offer in return.

For a voicebank to sound good and work effectively, you must OTO the voicebank. What part are you having trouble with? I may be able to help you.

Nope! Besides the samples itself, oto'ing is the number one most important thing in utau. It tells the program what to do with the sound samples, what to stretch, what to overlap, etc. I can pull up an example of unoto'd banks if you'd like.

There are several commissionable oto services available, too, if you're not ready to step up to the plate yet. Check the UtaSwap subforum. Even so, oto'ing is super simple in the end.

I haven't done it yet. I don't have a mic but I hope to get a headset in a few weeks. The tutorials seem confusing and the process seems extremely long

It's long for sure, but that's just part of utau. You may also be seeing some outdated tutorials, since most of oto theory was solidified back in 2008.

Thank you. I'm not able to pay anyone to oto so hopefully when the time comes I can find someone who is willing to oto for me.

You absolutely have to oto a voicebank. I suggest researching how the values actually function.

I recommend looking into BodyTemp's or Adlez's services if you need that.
I also teach classes...shameless plug.

The oto determines the timing and placement of notes, so it's best to learn CV before attempting VCV or CVVC English.

Also, avoid dated tutorials. Try 2013 or newer if you can as OTOing methods have changed drastically. Some older tutorials are alright but you need to be mindful.
Also, stay away from the old utau wiki- If anyone links you that then reject any further assistance from them as they may lead you poorly.

It is very necessary - in fact, it's probably the most necessary part of voicebank creation next to having high quality samples.
For tutorials, here is one: http://utau.wiki/tutorials:oto-theory-tutorial-by-cdra - if only to start you off in the right direction.
I will be providing a tutorial as well in the near future. For people who can help you or oto for you: I recommend either JeremyB796, bodytemp, or Adlez. Adlez will provide the service without asking anything in return. I myself can also provide otoing services, but I (like JeremyB796 and bodytemp) will require some form of compensation once a thread for such services is created.

If you want your UTAU to sound good, Yes
I hope you'll find someone to help you out ^^

I've been doing UTAU for 3 years and only recently started learning to OTO myself so better you start now then when you're in my situation where people expect too much from a Sr UTAU user XD
