Exporting and Labeling in Audacity.

Now that we’ve talked about recommended recording methods, let’s move onto answering questions about using the optimized DAWs (Digital Audio Workstation) on MacOS.

Audacity is a cross-platform DAW for both MacOS and Windows. If you recorded your UTAU in Garageband or Voice Memos, this is the method you will use to separate your samples. Alternatively, you can record in Audacity, and export your samples from the DAW itself. So without further ado, lets dive right in!

For this tutorial, we are going assume you recorded all your samples, and to skip right to the labeling process. I also want to note, that if my UI looks different from yours, that is because I am running Audacity 3.1.3. Most the information should translate, but if not! Older builds are available here.

Step 2. After creating the label track, you will need to highlight the area under the sample.

Then you will head to File > Labels > “Add Label at Selection.”

Repeat this step with all the remaining samples.

Step 3. Batch exporting, head to Files > Export Labels.

For this step, you will need to make sure your sample rate is 44100kHz, and mono. Make sure you set the export location to your UTAU’s folder.

Next, export range should be set to, “multiple files,” split files based on labels. Underneath range, there will a box called, “Name Files.” Select the option to name based on, “Label/Track Name.”

There you have it! That is how you label and prepare your files for multi-batch export in Audacity.
