For this tutorial I will be showing you how to create a Windows compatible oto.ini in UTAU-Synth. Before we get started, what is the difference between a Mac and Windows oto.ini?
The ini files are compatible with their OS scripting program. Notepad (default) and Notepad C++ for Windows, and Textedit for MacOS. This also means they will have a different extension, example, oto.ini on Windows, and oto_ini.txt on MacOS.
By default, UTAU-Synth will only generate the oto_ini.txt, the reason why we want to generate the default Windows ini is to make the bank compatible on Windows!
In UTAU-Synth, you will want to head to the preferences tab in the top left corner. In the toolbar, head to, “Voicebank Settings.”
There you will find options for reading and writing your oto.ini.
Under writing, select, “Update oto.ini with UTF-8.” This will now write a Windows compatible oto.ini in your voicebank.
