(I don’t know if this is allowed, but I really want to get this out there)
UTAU is not easy. OpenUTAU is not easy.
Even though it’s free, it is not beginner friendly. Otoing, recording, even an act as simple as navigating the software, it’s all difficult because the original UTAU was modeled after the *very clunky* Vocaloid 2. You will run into crashes and you will get to points where you feel like you’ve lost it all. And here’s where my point comes in;
Don’t give up, even when you don’t understand anything.
This is more of a problem on the UTAU reddit, but I see it occasionally over here. It’s fine to ask for help on forums (heck, I encourage it), however, you shouldn’t immediately go into ‘I want to give up’. Everyone has that urge, but if you give into it before even trying to fix the problem, then it shows you’re not really committed.
We also shouldn’t be outright nasty to beginners, either, another common thing I see on the UTAU reddit. This isn’t a toxic community- maybe a little rough around the edges, but we still need to make sure we aren’t indirectly pushing people away or giving ourselves a bad name.
I understand a lot of the new users in recent months come from TikTok and the like and tend to be on the younger side, but that’s not any reason to encourage them to give up on something they could be incredibly proud of for the years to come. Even if they’re annoying at first, they’ll mature and might wind up creating a new reclist for their native language or an insanely high-quality voicebank, all because they didn’t give up on that first CV.
TLDR just don’t be like the utau reddit
