Best deal on Vocaloid voice library and editor?

Okay, so I was on Amazon looking to see if they had any Vocaloid software. Turns out they do but it's super expensive.
I did see however that they have a Vocaloid 3 editor starter pack with IA for $258. But I don't know if that's the a full version of the software or just a sort of partial version with only half the features.

Now, the V3 editor by itself is $149. If I get that, I have to get an accompanying voice library. I saw that VY2V3 is $149.99 and buying both of those together would cost $298.99. However, I kind of wanted Hatsune Miku V3 but she's $200. But I saw she comes with Piapro Studio VSTi and it says it's a vocal editor. So I probably wouldn't need to buy the V3 editor.

So, to get to the point, what would be cheaper as far as buying Vocaloid goes?

Look around more. Check the companies sites themselves, check the official Vocaloid.com site, browse Ebay, and then Amazon.jp is generally the best bet as they have sales now and again (I remember once a Lily V3 + V3 Editor bundle going for only $120, was soooo tempted). Unfortunately if you buy from a Japanese store you have to use a go-between service like Tenso since it's illegal for Japanese software to be sold directly to overseas, but it can be worth it if the sales are good. For something as light as software it'll only run you about $20 for shipping which isn't bad.

Sometimes the companies themselves have sales, like Zero-G's final sale for the V1 voices and last year when AH-Software bundled all their Vocaloids together at a price that made them each worth about $80 (myself and a bunch of other people online pooled money to buy it and get them).

American Amazon is getting a lot better at having Vocaloids even available (three years ago they didn't), but they definetly give you the short end of the stick with prices since they're mostly imports.

Some Vocaloids only exist as downloads (Utatane Piko, Bruno, Clara, Maika, maybe more), and downloads are generally cheaper, so look into that maybe? If you're okay with downloads, because I know I'm not since they're so expensive and I'd like to have the software forever thank you.

If you need to buy the V3 Editor base just go for a starter pack deal, it's generally cheaper. But yeah, in the end you just need to look in more places. ouo

(Have you ever used Vocaloid before? It's hard. English especially is a nightmare, and some specific Vocaloids like Miki, Gakupo, etc are known to be harder to use, so be sure to research that also. *frowns at Tonio and Miki on her desk* I think Meiko's Power demo is still available on Crypton's site if you want to play around with it.)

I would keep an eye on Amazon. They have some pretty good sales every once in a while. I got the VY1V3 Starter Set for $50. Kagamine Act 2 for $60. They currently (as in a couple hours ago) have Miku append for $80 and The complete Gakupo collect was on sale for $90 in the past. All brand new, mind you. It doesn't hurt to keep an eye out.

Wait what, on American Amazon?! And by new do you mean new from the official companies or from people/other sellers selling them independently? I've never seen those deals, woah!

Looking into it, you're right, and Gachapoid is $95 right now too (SeeU is at $107, but as a V3 that isn't too great of a deal). Miku Append is probably because you need Miku V2 to use Append if I remember correctly so they're probably dropping the price over time.

Yep. On American Amazon. The people selling are independent sellers. I've attached details from my orders, so you can see that I'm not joking when I say $50-$60, but they will look a little funny since I did have gift cards.

In my experience with Vocaloid, however light it may be, it's going to be expensive no matter how you look at it... it's all what you're after, in the end, though. I'd offer my suggestion but only if you're okay with it. It would give you both the V3 Editor (DVD) and a Voice library. You can certainly branch out after that, and is, in my opinion, the best way to get your foot in the door.

In terms of pure value if you are interested in getting the V3 Full Editor to learn and a voicebank to start with an Engloid might be a wise choice.

PowerFX offers Oliver/V3 Editor & Yohioloid/V3 Editor for $200 & $230 respectively. These are for DVD bundles of each and includes FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING within its price.

A V3 Starter pack includes a library and the editor together, full editor.

OK, So Piapro.

Piapro studio is incredibly convenient, but like everything, there's a catch.

To use Piapro, you /MUST/ have a DAW software installed beforehand. And a quality DAW usually runs around $200. Of course that's not always the case, for instance, I think FL Studio is under $200, but I'm not exactly sure.

The reason you need a DAW is this- unlike the V3 Editor, Piapro is what we call a VST in the music world. A VST is essentially a virtual instrument that runs in a DAW. Piapro Studio is just another one of those, and while it may seem like it's own program, it really isn't. Now assuming you already have a DAW such as FL or Cubase or ProTools, then you're good to go. Crypton V3s come with Piapro, and the cool thing is that if you have an account with Crypton's online shop, SonicWire, you can get a code to use non Crypton VOCALOIDs in Piapro Studio. I know this works with V3s, not sure about V2s, and certain it doesn't work with V1.

Hope I helped!

Oh, by the way, DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation, and I think VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology. A VST is a type of plugin.

Isn't REAPER a DAW and it's pretty much free as long as you aren't making beaucoup bucks with it? Or is it really terrible compared to the actually expensive ones? I've been using REAPER with loads of free VSTs hah. And in FL Studio's trial can you use VSTs? Because I've heard that even after it expires you can still use it, you just can't save as an FL Studio file. free options yay

I was actually going to suggest going to PowerFX because of the Oliver/V3 Editor, and YOHIOloid/V3 Editor Bundles

Reaper has an unlimited free trial with discounted licence at $60 for anyone that makes less than $20,000 per year on music.

As a DAW it is fully featured. The only downsides is it has less default plugins and instruments that paid DAWs sould come with and there is less documentation (YouTube tutorial vids, etc.) since less people use it.

But yes, Piapro Studio has its own catches and unless you meet the perquisites and REALLY must use it on a Mac it is probably best avoided.
