Just a UTAU and Linux geek writing a few tools for other Linux using UTAU lovers, and have noticed something, I think. Most UTAU files I have tinkered with (oto.ini, .ust) have a SHIFT_JIS encoding, which renders as gibberish on Ubuntu's default text editor, Gedit, but when converted to UTF-8 they are perfectly readable. My question is, do these files have to be SHIFT_JIS to work with UTAU (especially on Windows machines) or would UTF-8 work just as good?
Wondering mainly because if I did not have to convert back to SHIFT_JIS I could make my tool a bit smaller and allow me to use Gedit to manually edit .ust and oto.ini if needed. Plus, Linux users that use my tool to on their voicebanks would be compatible for Windows UTAU users.
If a windows user would care to post a bank/oto.ini I could convert it (and alias it, if you like ^_^) for a test.
