Data Transfer worries?

So a few weeks ago a storm fried our PC's power core or something. My older brother has given us a temporary PC and is transfering the data over while he builds the new one.

So my main worry is for my UTAU files.

My family refuses to let me change the locale of the computer because I have my own now (Still need to install Windows 7 on Bootcamp). But I don't think I'll be able to intercept my brother for the data and will have to instead get it from the temporary PC.

Basically, the old PC was JP locale with loads of JP files. Will those still be in JP if I intercept them being taken from that old PC and put them on Bootcamp Windows (it does function like regular windows completely and utterly right) in JP locale? But if I do end up having to take them from the other computer, which ISN'T, will all the files still be in mojibake when I transfer them again?

i have so many voicebanks in hiragana guys this would be a nightmare

i'd utau-synth but i hear of too many compatibility issues when you make a bank with it and its oto doesn't work on windows or something
and plus all my love is still in my utau0276 folder on my old pc sob

Um, I haven't been a situation like yours but I used to use UTAU in English locale and then switched to JP so from what I remember, when that happened:
-USTs that were in mojibake were fine and were in Hiragana after. On the inside only though. The title will be messed up.
-Voicebanks will remain in mojibake, I'm pretty sure, if they are extracted. Zips preserve hiragana files though.

This only gives a tiny bit of insight for only one transfer. Not sure about other combinations, sorry. @ _ @

I'm currently trying to persuade my brother to just directly move all my data to an external hard-drive (That's what those are called right? Those things that are essentially giant USBs?) to give to me to put onto Bootcamp JP locale windows. I don't think the hard-drive would mess up the Japanese. Hopefully.

(Question for Mac people, I'm not very fond of Safari (for everyone who bashes IE, it was a million times better than this and I actually rather liked IE, tried out Firefox and Chrome and while I hated Chrome I was eh about Firefox) - is Firefox the best alternative or are there better ones?)

The only alternative I know of is Opera. There are a few others mentioned in this article towards the bottom.
