For people who already own the Vocaloid 4 editor, there's no advantage to buying an entirely new editor, especially when you lose V4-specific features like GWL and XSY. The upgrade cost was also prohibitively expensive at initial release due to the editor being bundled with multiple voicebanks.

At around the same time of V5 and V6, SynthV gained popularity as a serious competitor. Many beloved vocaloid characters got updates on SynthV. SynthV is also more affordable, higher quality, and easier to use.

ohhh that makes a lot of sense! thank you! (also xsy and gwl have been added to v6 as well as direct pitch editing)

V6 has both GWL and XSY. The only feature V6 doesn't have that V4 had to my knowledge is V2 and plugin support.
Don't act like SynthV is an objective upgrade either. Not everyone is a fan of realism or AI voicebanks, and the ease of use detail is entirely subjective. I, for one, find them basically equal in ease.

I'm still not going to spend that much money on V6 when I already own V4.
I'm still not going to spend that much money on V6 when I already own V4. Even if they're able to support the same features and same quality of results, I don't really need to spend additional money on something when the older version is still completely usable.

None of the newer vocaloids particularly appeal to me, and that's another valid reason why people wouldn't buy V5 or V6 editors. I mostly used V4 for Kiyoteru, so I followed Kiyoteru onto SynthV.

Newer users of vocaloid are starting on newer editors, so it makes sense that they're used to what they currently have. Older versions of vocaloid aren't broken, so older users of vocaloid can still enjoy what they already bought a long time ago without really needing to buy new editors.

i think youve misunderstood
i was just asking why some people like v4 instead of v5-v6. i never meant to imply that one was better than the other <-idiot unforch

We aren't talking about buying new editors or trying to convince people to buy V6, we are solely discussing which one people prefer using if they have both or multiple. There's no need to go on an anti V6 rant.

You're completely welcome to buy V6 if you like the newer vocaloids! But the question of "which version of vocaloid do you prefer" is casting quite a large net, and "I prefer using the older version to save money" is also a valid answer.

For that matter, Crypton's older piapro editors also supported V3 and V4 voicebanks. If you purchased those versions of their vocaloids, you'd be able to save money by getting those editors included as well as music production software. So for some users, another answer to the question would be "I prefer using this editor because I don't need to buy a separate editor at all."

A similar sort of question would be something like "which music production software is your favorite?"

FL studio has a wonky workflow compared to a lot of other DAWs, but you only purchase it once and get free upgrades forever. Other software like Ableton Live will charge money for future upgrades. In a lot of ways, Ableton Live does have more capable workflow features, and FL studio tends to fall behind. But the pricing of different software is also a significant factor in user preferences.

If I have money to buy VOCALOID, tbh I prefer latest editor as long as it supports older voicebanks cuz well... activation server thing...
And if speaking about V6 voicebank, most of them are uninteresting for me except GUMI/MEGPOID. So I just use the latest editor to make me having less hassle on activating the editor.

Even most popular voicebanks in the past on VOCALOID moved to ACE Studio or Synth-V, but I still prefer some of their old voices on VOCALOID cuz it's been iconic to them for me.

Voicebanks aside, I vastly prefer using V6. V4 has the most god awful colour pallet ever. EVER. Also, nothing is where it’s supposed to be and everything is so tiny that I have to lean in to read it. V6 does have some performance issues but I like it quite a bit spare the track reloading.

But if we are talking about voicebanks, V4 no questions asked. I am yet to meet a person who prefers AI GUMI over Vocaloid GUMI.

Hi, I am a person who prefers AI Gumi over Vocaloid Gumi.
(Granted, I prefer SV Gumi not V6)
