Do you think that sites for an utau is necessary?

*Do you think that it's necessary to have a site for your/an UTAU?

I'm just curious and I think it'll be interesting to start a discussion about it.

EDIT: Why can't I edit the title...

In my opinion, they dont need nessesarly a site. They can be placed in a place that has all the needed info and links to the voicebanks, like the new wiki. I find it a bit neat to know where to go to if I want any of the other voiebanks of that UTAU.

And I agree with @Roenais. If they have multiple voicebanks for diffrent characters, then its more convinient to have them on a site. It might also make a curious user look at the other characters voicebanks if they liked one allredy.

They don't need one, of course not! I like them though because they show that the owners care so much that instead of dumping them on the Wiki with MediaFire links they also prepare marketing and a central place of information in the form of a site.

It's not necessary, but it is a good way to organize all of your banks and links in a single place if you have more than one. You'll also have the ability to present your information in more than one language (say, you want an English site that you can translate to Japanese for instance). IMO, it also makes the bank look professional - esp. if there's a dedicated team behind its development (for. ex. TwinDrill, the VIPPERS). You can simply rely on the wiki of course, but that can get messy with more than one bank (you might forget to update things, etc.).

I used to have a website for my UTAU works, but it was ugly and hard to manage, so I sort of abandoned it. It still exists, and somehow, people still find it....

Most recently though, I just rely on the fact that I release stuff to youtube and soundcloud. If I want to see what voicebanks or USTs I have, I just check my page. Also, LEXYS is merely a sub-page to my vocalsynth tumblr blog.

As a form of marketing for a specific UTAU or project, a good website would be quite essential. It provides a central place for all information to be gathered, yeah.

@pomikko You can't edit the title because you're a very new member.

Websites are need if you're getting really serious in utau and need a central place that others can go to get you're creations.

However I find many people do well without using websites. Such as using the wikis or utaforum or youtube or soundcloud(as other people mentioned before)

It isn't totally necessary, but I think it can make your stuff more accessible than if everything's spread out over multiple platforms.

I used to have an "UTAU Site" myself (really it was just an FC2 blog though since I didn't have the patience to make an actual website back then), but it wasn't organized very well and from what I could tell, people didn't use it all that much. I remember I had a page counter and it was woefully low.

Its really not. But if you want to have your UTAU known, have a FULL story, all the artwork, links etc etc vital to a UTAloids seccues(excuse my spelling), then yes.
But its upto you if you want your UTAU to have a sight

I am of course bias (for obvious reasons) but I believe it is necessary if you reasonably expect others to use your UTAU. Its important for marketing purposes, for licencing purposes, for distribution purposes, and simply a cool thing to have.

Share works made with said UTAU, go into detail about the character beyond a simple Wiki entry, post your full licencing terms in case people want to use them, give yourself an official channel to communicate through when you push out updates or new releases. You can't reasonably expect a stranger to seek all of the above out on their own if they have only a passing interest, if you make it easier on them however...

Treat your UTAU like a product, it could be paid it could be free, a website is an important part of any marketing/distribution plan in this internet driven age and fandom.

It's good IF you want to get marketing to your UTAU. Treat your UTAU like you want it to be treated. It's what I have on my mind.

But something I think it's realy necessary if you really want to anyone ever notice your UTAU is to make a page on the new UTAU wiki.

I don't think that they're necessary, but they're really helpful to have.
It's a lot easier to find a DL link for someone's UTAU if you can look on a site specifically dedicated to them rather than hunt down a youtube video that has the voicebank link in the description.
And even if you're not content on making a website, wiki pages are just as useful.
