Wanted to try out utaugrowl but I'm not sure how to use it with OpenUtau, or if that's even possible.

Does utaugrowl work with OpenUtau?

Yes, you would set it up the same way as usual.
1. Copy and paste utaugrowl.exe to the same folder as the base resampler you want to use. (eg. TIPS)
2. Rename utaugrowl.exe to <resampler name>_ug.exe (eg. TIPS_ug.exe)
3. In OpenUtau, use the CLASSIC renderer, and click the gear to pick a resampler. Pick your resampler with _ug at the end
4. Go to Tools > Expressions and add the w flag for growl. Minimum 0, maximum 100, default 0. You can add other utaugrowl flags as additional expressions if you want.
5. In the piano roll window, edit the growl expression on notes where you want to add growl
