How did you find out about UTAU?

I found out 2020-2021-ish via some animation of Mind Brand and ironically stumbled across Eye Have You, SIU and Darling all within the same year. I tried to make a voicebank but OpenUTAU hadn’t released yet, so there was
1. Not many resources available
2. The fact that the original UTAU isn’t very accessible
And I gave up and just played around with SynthV Lite. I rediscovered the software in early 2024 when I started to like Vocaloid again.
I went through this super edgy Gacha Life withdrawal phase where I hated anything weeb-related, but then I decided I’d check out some Miku playlists and now I own two figurines, a massive poster of her, and, like, eight UTAUloids. Best redemption arc ever.
I’m interested in hearing your stories! I wasn’t part of the Ievan Polka/Triple Baka era but I always wonder what it was like being in the fandom during those times.

I technically found out about UTAU from watching a video talking about the history of Nyan Cat, saying that the song in the video was a Momo Momone cover of "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!", however I got into UTAU through Minnemi jinriki UTAU video of Drop Pop Candy with the Spongebob UTAUs, and thinking it would be cool to make my very own UTAU just like they did with their jinrikis. I also gave up with UTAU and played around with SynthV lite funnily enough, until I eventually downloaded OpenUTAU, planning on making a Defoko cover, before I made a voicebank in 2024 by replacing all of the sounds from another voicebank with my own recordings.

As I assume most people from my time did (and as you mentioned): Watching Triple Baka shortly after it was reprinted to YT from NND, and wanting to know more about the two characters that weren't Miku (Teto and Neru, Neru being less relevant here), with everything spiralling from there.

Triple Baka wasn't the first vocalsynth song I'd ever heard, nor watched, but it was what pulled me into the UTAU side of things moreso than the vocaloid side, since I found the concept of making my own UTAU characters extremely appealing. As I, once again, assume of most kids who get into UTAU. Having OCs who can sing appeals to the lizard part of a 12 year olds brain the way nothing else does, and thats the one constant from way back then to now for this community lol.

Umm....maybe a few months after I got into VOCALOID and PJSK. I was super excited to try making my own, but i used the OREMO auto otoer and had a shitty laptop mic. I think I have a sample somewhere. I then made a VCV with either my computer mic or a new mic, and it turned out ok.

I did the exact opposite, and started with VCV off a 60-mora reclist (I made a large number of mistakes that practically made my voicebank unusable), before going back to CV. I also used my laptop mic (which I still use for my voicebanks, I learned my lesson not to use a Blue Yeti microphone). Is this CV voicebank what you based Suzuki Hoshi LITE off of?

Yes. I tried to make a lower quality bank with more american sounding recordings. I didn't use my laptop microphone because it's not good at all.

Oh my god, the Blue Yeti thing is so true. I hate how they sound so, so much and I wish newer UTAU users would stop buying them because they’re a waste of money. You can buy an AT2050 for the cost of a Blue Yeti.

I can't use them for more than 20 seconds (I am not joking) without them clipping or some strange audio glitch happening where the audio cuts out for a few hundred milliseconds.

Oh. Strange. I haven't used Loliedit because Ameya stopped distributing it, until I saw that Utau Lost Media redistributed it.
