INSTALLING UTAU-SYNTH

Unlike Windows, there's really no muddling around with locales and dot/comma and issues like that. You can simply download the latest version of the program from the website, open the DMG, and put the app into Applications or any other fitting place to run it from.

However, it will be in Japanese. That's when you should search UTAforum for the English patch (found here http://utaforum.net/thread-utau-synth-english-translation-project ). Follow the instructions there, and read through the replies just in case you have problems and other people were able to fix them.

Once you open it, there will be a window asking for a registration code. Don't panic! This does not mean you have to pay for one! Just head back to the UTAU-Synth website to the download page, where there should be a link with the number "30" in it. Click on that to open a mini window with a code. After using that and agreeing to the rules, you can open UTAU-Synth without having to reenter the code for 30 days.

In order to add voicebanks, just download one as usual, then edit the name of the folder to add ".utau" at the end. Double click, and it should open in UTAU-Synth. If you don't know how to use a bank, or if you want to create your own, check elsewhere.

Keep in mind that when you save a UST it will present options for format. Always select ust 1.2 instead of 2.0! If that's the incorrect number, hopefully you understand what I mean.

You don't have to do the .utau thing though - I just hit the character box, click select, and choose a voice. That's the better option when you're swimming in hundreds of voicebanks.

Myst has a great step-by-step tutorial for this too on the new UTAU Wiki.

And UST 1.2 isn't always perfect. A little while ago I opened a UST made in UTAU PC (so type 1.2), edited it in UTAU-Synth and saved it as a 1.2, and sent it to an UTAU PC using friend. She said there were problems and wrote a program to remove the million rests that UTAU-Synth likes to add.

Basically, if you intend to release a UST made in Synth or even just share it with someone, you will likely have to do lots of double-checking work to make sure it converts properly.

I do the .utau thing because I sort my voicebanks into folders based on vocaltype/range, which means I'm able to find them pretty easily.

Also, there's a slight typo. It's Zelda backwards, not Zedla.
