I don't get Reaper at all.

First of all, I can never remember where the heck I click to get into Reaper, rather than go get a license (my 30-day trial has passed)

Second of all, I have no clue how to import tracks. I think I used import audio...? But then I tried to play it, and no sound came out. But if I do the same thing in Audacity, it works fine.

The only help I can give is to get the last REAPER for your system from
http://www.reaper.fm/download.php
(Maybe your old version had a bug on that.)

And check its free and extensive guide by Geoffrey Francis you can get as pdf from
http://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php
(Use "save link as..." in order to download the pdf to your computer if it's needed.)

The guide is really imposing but it really covers everything. At the start says a lot about the configuration that can fix some of the issues you can get.
(As personal experience, I had no idea how to make midi sound at all but that guide states how to switch on the midi out of a track to be able to use the microsoft synth.)

Also, sometimes (not sure if the last reaper has it by default), you also need the dll for mp3 compability to use mp3 files (again, not sure if it's just to save files to mp3 and reading is ok).
Just google for lame_enc.dll from a safe site. For example from
http://lame1.buanzo.com.ar/
or
http://www.free-codecs.com/lame_encoder_download.htm
(Look inside the zip for lame_enc.dll and copy it next to reaper.exe inside your reaper folder.)

Ah, REAPER always SAYS the trial is out and that you should buy a license, but you don't have to. The program works perfectly and fully fine without one. You just need to click on the pop-up saying to get a license, wait a few seconds, then the buy me button says "Still Evaluating" - click that and you can use REAPER. You only really need a license if you intend to make and sell music using it.

As for bringing in audio, go up top to Insert and click Media File. You can select multiple, and choose to have them all on different tracks. Selecting and importing them all in one go is best because otherwise you have to make new tracks for the new files before importing them.
