Mixing & Programs?

So i'm still new to UTAU, and i've been trying really hard to learn to mix and such, but i've been having a lot of trouble. It seems i'm always off by a couple of milliseconds which i guess everyone notices but me.
So I was wondering how you can catch things like that? Because i really can never tell.
I thought i was mixing correctly yet i've still been told it was off.

There is also some issues i have with the music pitching as well, How do I know what pitch to set the music at to match the voice?

Again i'm new to UTAU so don't think i'm stupid, i don't listen to music that often, and when i do i pay more attention to lyrics than the sound. (Message over music is how my brain works x.x)

Also any programs anyone uses for Recording and Mixing your utaus (that are free) that'd be helpful. Because I only have Audacity.

Can't view the samples because I'm in school, but I can try to help anyway. owo If you're having trouble lining up your UTAUs voice with the song, try adding the original song (vocals and all) as a new track under the off vocal and rendered UTAU vocals. That way you can slide the rendered UTAU vocals around and match it up exactly.

For mixing I use FL Studio, mostly because I've gotten used to how it works, and because there's lots of nice settings in the mixer. Nice and customizable reverb, delay, etc. When mixing vocals you will want to "EQ" them, which essentially means boosting or lowering certain frequencies so that it blends with the background music well. Some people get along just fine in Audacity, but I find it a bit of a hassle to deal with. Others also like Reaper.

For recording, use Oremo, it's specifically created for recording UTAUs. It does all the file names for you as long as you have a reclist. I actually wouldn't reccomended using anything else, Oremo just makes it much easier for you, so you don't have to export every sound as a WAV like if you were doing it in audacity.

As for pitch, as long as you use a UST and don't move it up or down you should be okay. If you find your UTAU struggling to sing in the range the UST was made for, move down all the notes ONLY one octave. For example, if the first note is on A3, you can move it to A2, A4, whatever, as long as its A. You can't move it to a B, C, etc. because that will cause the song to go off pitch.

Also, this section of the forums is for forum related issues (problems posting, problems with PM or oekaki, etc). Next time threads like this should go under "Help and Advice:" http://utaforum.net/board-help-and-advice

Since you're using Audacity, I recommend using the Click Track option from the Generate Tab. Just type in the tempo (you can see the tempo in the UST) and move the slider to the number of bars you want. It's highly accurate and easy to line up your vocal tracks.
