New vocalsynth! Sharpkey

honestly, I'm in love with SharpKey! The tuning is really easy and Huan's voice is really nice. I'm excited for the English UI...and the possibility to import custom voicebanks. From what I've tried, the parameters include pitch bending, loudness, whisper, and a way (I'm not sure how to describe it orz) to adjust the length of syllables in a notes (for example, lengthen/shorten the opening or ending consant...) - almost like envelopes in UTAU (or maybe the oto??). Anyway, hopefully this synth advances further~!

you can't isolate consonants by inputting them into the note on their own, however what you can do is make the note short and use the timing tool to lengthen the consonant.
But that's not really the same thing.

I feel as though Sharpkey isn't actually smooth in the sense on there being all the transitions.
At times it does get choppy but it gets choppy in a very smoothed out sort of way.
But regardless it still sounds nice.

I used that method to do a short test (I might upload it to Youtube/Soundcloud later) and while the results were better than I was expecting, it still sounded choppy. I'm not surprised though, because she isn't MADE to sing in English.

Well of course she isn't, you can't really expect her to be smooth using her out of her indented use.
You can probably fuss with it a bit and make it sound a tad smoother than default though.

Yeah, like I said, I'm not surprised or disappointed by her English skills. And I LOVE that I can adjust the phoneme/transition timing visually in SharpKey. This is what I've been wanting in Vocaloid since they announced V3.

I agree that people should definitely branch out and do more languages than Japanese, but not because of the synth being made in China and having a Chinese voice as it's demonstration. That's like saying, "Don't bother making anything other than Japanese cause UTAU is a Japanese synth made in Japan." Maybe some users want to do their native tongue and not just be a cover artist forever now that more synths with better rendering capabilities are on the rise.

Actually you seem to be correct, but it seems people will just make Japanese banks to make Japanese song covers, hopefully they try other languages such as Spanish. English, Serbian etc.

Note: I don't know Mandarin, so I'm making up my own names for the parameters and such.

At the top of the screen, there a switch with two green "lights" beneath some Chinese text. This switch allows you to switch between the basic mode (drawing notes, adding lyrics and basic vibrato, etc) and the advanced mode. The advanced mode allows you to edit the parameters.

Once you switch to the advanced mode, two boxes will appear over the piano roll. these boxes allow you to select which parameter you are adjusting and which parameter is ghosted over it (a lot like Vocaloid, except in this case the first parameter in each list is "none" so you can chose to have only the parameter you're editing be visible). The parameters are as follows:

None: No parameter
Dynamics: Much like the dynamics of Vocaloid, it increases/decreases the volume of the voice.
Pitch: Allows you to adjust the pitch by drawing over the pitch line. If you've already adjusted the vibrato and attack of the notes in basic mode, those adjustments will be present in the pitch line, but they can be further adjusted here.
Power: Makes the voice sound weaker or stronger.
Breathiness: Again, much like Vocaloid. It sounds great if you add a ramp at the end of a long note, but too much of it makes it sound like they're dying.
Phoneme Timing/Crossfade: Allows you to adjust the timing of the phonemes and their transitions, as well as the "decay" of the note. It's super useful and I love it.

To be honest, whenever i fall on a synthwhere you can make custom voicebanks I always try to plan and do the intended language and then add the extras or other languages (like NameWave I'll make a Japanese, Niaoniao i started with Chinese and even if their banks do have Japanese, Jinghua and Qingge are still Chinese imported banks, and for Sharpkey i would do chinese firts and then try to import nor test French or any other language for a made-for-Sharpkey-not-an-import banks ))

I think we should just make vbs for languages that we plan on using for Sharpkey, so if you think that you'll still be mostly covering Japanese songs, but have developed a preference for Sharpkey, then just go for it, because the fact of the matter is that you'll be putting the time into the voicebank, and it'll likely be mostly you using it. Don't get me wrong though, I'd still like to see people branching out more, because it does seem that Sharpkey will have better support for a wider variety of languages.

Also, because I don't want to double post, can you add new tracks to your project in Sharpkey, so all your harmonies are contained in the same file, like with Vocaloid? If so, how?
