UTAU pet peeves?

UTAU is still a beta program. While it's pretty good for a beta, there's a lot of stupid bugs and features that we want.

My pet peeves:
  • When UTAU doesn't let me split a rest (for breath)
  • Resetting preutterances, overlaps, STP, and P1P4/P2P3 when changng the UTAUloid (there an option when changing the lyrics automatically sets preutterance and overlap btw)
  • When after rendering, UTAU just randomly minimizes occasionally
  • When the "logical" range says something stupid (C1~C6 anyone?)

Actually, most of the stuff that really bugged me got fixed eventually.
Like, I used to have to go into the UST in notepad to fix the tempo when I imported a MIDI from REAPER. That's fixed now. (and maybe if I added a tempo marker to the MIDI . . .)
UTAU used to straight up CRASH if I tried to render and an OTO had no white - now resampler is all that crashes. That's awesome.
AND THOSE DARN STATIC POPS. god I hated those. I haven't heard one in a long time, so YAY!

it bothers me when things wont render and how you cant change all the lyrics at once and have to do it one by one and that really sucks when there are like 1000 of them

But you can change them? You just have to type all the lyrics up top (with some thigns you need to keep in mind, like if a note isn't just the lyrics but like "sa a a a a", with romaji you need spaces and sometimes quotes around it if it wouldn't consider that symbol legitamate, and with CV VC English definetly use quotes as "k@" would probably be seperated into k and @ normally). Then hit the Lyrics Replace button after selecting all the notes you want to effect.

I'm a bit mad that they have never fixed up UTAU-Synth's million problems, that they never released M4 despite saying they're never going to finish it (I don't care if it isn't perfect, some banks sound really good with it), a bit annoyed when UTAU crashes if somehow you accidentally flick your hand and make an impossible pitchbend (it lets you save at least), in UTAU-Synth it does the same with really long accidental lyrics but without the nice failsafe…

In PC UTAU I can't think of much really, and I'm used to using 2.76. UTAU-Synth really needs some overhauls.

I shorten an existing note to make a ending rest (like [a R]) and then the generated rest doesn't have mod 0 so it sounds off compared to the note before it.

When I started UTAU this would frustrate me so I would not use those useful ending notes.

Utau-Synth crashes when you generate the FRQ for a breath sound.
It also crashes when trying to render a .wav, but I realized that for some reason, it doesn't crash when you don't patch Utau-Synth to English. Or at least for some reason that fixed the problem for me.

utau-synth crashes with everything really

Some banks crash it, some specific samples crash it, switching USTs sometimes crashes it, inserting accidentally long lyrics crashes it, if your hand slips and makes an impossible pitchbend it crashes (PC UTAU does that, but at least when you right-click to close the freaking-out program you can save the project, UTAU-Synth doesn't have that nice failsafe)…
it crashes so often *sigh*

And I don't know if MAC Audacity is glitchy or it's the WAVs that UTAU-Synth generates, but Audacity crashes 9 times out of 10 when importing one.

it's such a buggy mess ugh -end utau-synth rant-

I've found that MAC Audacity usually crashes when importing something with non-roman characters; I've never had a problem with UTAU Synth renders, though.

For UTAU-synth users have you tried doing something like a stereo mixer, when recording your UTAU. (I do it know and then to record for off vocals when I can't find them.)
While I know Mac doesn't have a stereo mixer (and for anyone who doesn't know, it's a way to record sound from your computer/laptop that's internally in it without all that background noise. However it's on Windows only, sorta) I showed this:
http://coffeecone.com/post/28986669146/stereo-mix-for-mac-os-x
to a friend of mine, they have one of the newer ones, I don't remember which (they got it like last year and I'm tired) and anyway I looked this up for them to create something like a stereo mixer and it worked for them. While I'm not sure it work for all, It may help a few people who are having trouble making wav's and getting them in Audacity. As you can use this to record with a bunch of noise and import wav's that aren't problematic.

Zarsia, you talking about Soundflower basically? It's a MAC application that allows that kind of System Audio recording. I have it. However, WAVs are 1000x more convenient, as when testing to see if my timing is good I just want to pop the WAV in and line it up where the last version was precisely. Recording the system audio would make that a new variable each time.

And as for Purin, it's the exact opposite for me - never has an MP3 of an off vocal or on vocal or whatever failed to load, only WAVs. ugh.
