What is it about this program that interests all of you? The art? The voicebanks? Do you prefer it to other synthesis programs? Why or why not?

I basically summed it up with my votes... Free, simple, easy to use, highly customizable text-to-song software. Linguistic exploration. Musical possibilities. Kinda like... you can just do ANYTHING with UTAU.
UTAU...
- is free to use. who can beat that? (though i am willing to contribute to ameya)
- allows you complete control over the quality of the outcome.
- has a ton of voices to choose from (though the quality follows sturgeon's law - especially amongst the overseas community)
- has many language capabilities - the configuration format isn't perfect (due to it mainly being for a Japanese audience), but we've managed to get more languages sung than Vocaloid (you need a mac or virtual machine if you want to work with actual hangeul and not romaja, but... maybe one day)
- let's me make my own voicebank and i have the option of keeping or scrapping the results
- has reclist creation - which circles back to language capabilities and control of outcome. done right and sensibly, you can make a bank as customized and complex or as simplistic as you want. any bank, regardless of the format can sound great or garbage depending not only on the reclist, but the configuration of the creator.

You can do SO MUCH with it, it's extremely versatile, and it's still growing in ways of recording methods and finding out what the program is capable of. Voicebanks are nearly endless when it comes to possibilities! It takes some getting used to, but I find it a noticeably easier to use than Vocaloid, yet I can produce things nearly of the same quality with UTAU. It's amazing to hear some of the voicebanks created with UTAU; sometimes I have to remind myself this is a free program! There's just so much creative freedom that you get with it.
Definitely how accessible it is, and how much you can strongarm it into your will with reclists and plugins. It's free, flexible, and I wish it was open source by now.
I also think it's, like, an AWESOME gateway drug into learning music, audio, art, theory, code; there's so much that goes into making an UTAU that you can have practically any skill and be useful.
