How do you make multitpitch consistent?

I'm trying to record a tripitch bank and I swear my raw recordings sound the same in tone, but in UTAU the lowest one has a very noticable growl and the highest goes suddenly airy and breathy. It's very jarring and more of a detriment to the voicebank than anything. How do you guys make sure your pitches blend well?

Usually I record a test voicebank that consists of only one or two strings for each pitch I'm thinking of including and then see how it sounds in the software before I commit to recording the whole thing. If I'm really uncertain, I'll record several different test strings at different pitches and then experiment with different prefix maps until I get the transitions I want between them.

As far as keeping pitch consistent overall, I basically always record with a guideBGM and periodically match pitch with OREMO's built-in tuning fork to make sure I'm not going too sharp or flat from the target pitch over time.

I use BGMs, if my voice is not in the same tone I realize that I am recording it wrong, the use of BGMs made it possible for me to maintain multipitch without losing the tone, if you don't use them, use them, FelineWasterland has some very good ones, I recommend theirs with 12 moras and 120 bmp
