While living there sounds nice at first, Japan really isn't a place you'd want to live. Compared to the United States, Japan is over 30 places lower on the UN's world happiness rating and deals with many cultural problems such as an extremely toxic work culture, extreme population density, lack of recognization of gay marriage and more. I've heard Japan described before as a place to visit and retire but not a place to live and I feel like it is a fitting description.

The US is also pretty unsafe for women, minorities, and the disabled- again, it all depends on your location and the times at which you go out. Most big cities at night are pretty dangerous, even places you wouldn’t expect, like DC.
Japan does have some major issues involving their birth rates and overpopulation/crowding, on top of the issues that most countries have. I wouldn’t say it’s better or worse than the US, considering the recent measures our government has been taking to restrict marriage freedom and access to gender-affirming care.
Source: I have a friend who regularly visits Japan + I’ve spoken with people who’ve lived there in the past

:P

i'd still like to visit, at least.

Europe (the entire continent) is apparently better than a lot of other countries (concerning rights and all that) so i might visit there too
