I also gained respect for every music producer, beginner or experienced.

Working with UTAU is something that helps keep my Japanese from getting rusty. It's kinda like how it's good for your language skills to hear that language being spoken, except here it's lyrically.

Music overall taught me how to overcome performance anxiety, how to speak clearly enough to be understood by people who don't speak English as a first language (though that came from my job and my family too) and all kinds of new aporoaches to editing audio.

this sounds like a veiled insult but i mean it sincerely: it taught me to appreciate things that aren't perfect or typically beautiful but have heart behind them, and it taught me to have patience with complicated tasks and even appreciate inconsistencies and imperfections in things. it actually did change the way I think about music a lot, and english utau made me legitimately interested in phonology, and mixing even more so. plus of course I can't forget the friends I made along the way

It certainly taught me a lot about the English and Japanese languages. I'm able to easily lip sync 3d character model's mouths just by observing a waveform, which put me ahead in my 3d design classes. Leagues faster than just listening to the audio clip over and over again and hoping you're on the right frame.

But I think I learned the most about music expression. I've learned first hand about harmonies, vibrato, portamento, dynamics, composition--so many things that greatly improved my real-life musical performance when singing and playing musical instruments. I was able to understand what my band director meant about emotion, and really wished it was possible to do things like click on the trumpet section and turn down the volume like you can in MIDI lol.

Music is just good for the brain in general.

UTAU gave me a HUGE boost in my Japanese language skills--using UTAU alone I was able to learn Hiragana and Katakana leagues quicker than I could have normally, since I was using it every day for years. I had been studying Japanese before it, but it gave me an outlet to actually use my skills. I was able to skip to level 2 Japanese in college due to the help I received. Creating reclists has taught me about phonology and linguistics, and partly because of that, I was able to enter an internship in Japan which I'm participating in now!! And since I'm in that internship, I'm doing some more work with UTAU and text to speech engines and language preservation. Even before that, due to my linguistics knowledge, I earned a spot in a linguistics summer program at another college. Having worked with this program from middle school all the way to now, my third year in college reminds me how far I've come. I've used UTAU in so many projects already.
Aand now for some of the more sensitive stuff.

I found out about UTAU when I was in middle school, with no friends and no support system. I was starting to have major anxiety problems and was in a place where I wasn't accepted. I went from that school to another one where I was bullied mercilessly for being mentally ill, without friends. UTAU gave me a chance to express myself, to create characters, to create music and to make friends. To cross international borders and find people I could connect to. By using this program I was able to connect with friends all over the world and showcase new ideas. The program gave me a solid routine and way of thought, plus an extra level of computer experience. OTOing could get my mind off things. I could record voicebanks and it would take hours but still feel like I accomplished something even if I never used it. In high school I came out as transgender and queer. Even when I was completely ostracized and isolated by my peers, my parents, and school, I was able to cling to UTAU. I had trans friends in the community that I could talk to. I could cling to otocreation, to reclists, to resamplers, to covering and creating songs. It got me through high school, and if I hadn't had that, I don't know what I would have done.

So yeah, in short, UTAU saved my life? And gave me job experience and help with college. And a support system, and new friends. It's been around 6 years, at least, that I've worked with it. Thanks everyone.

vocaloid and utau have in general slightly forced me to memorize / learn some japanese, mainly hiragana. i know about english phonetics and i hate them and learned that i taken basic things like talking for granted. so many sounds go into english.

UTAU has actually helped me better recognize patterns in various situations in the real world. Since I was able to pick up on patterns quicker and easier, I was actually able to pass my math classes which I never could do before.

I first started using UTAU when I was in middle school. I started my main UTAU, Shadow, which I still use today, she is actually getting an upgrade soon. I started to make her the night before I went down for some... Pretty massive surgery and I wasn't sure if I was going to actually make it or not.. If I didn't make it, she didn't make it. I made a really bad CV bank in one sitting. No oto, just recorded it and ran with it. I went down for the surgery about two hours after I "finished." I luckily woke up after a 2 hour surgery and my parents put my sketch book that contained Shadow's original character sketches in the bed next to me. They were the first thing I saw when I woke up. Since I made it, I knew she was going to as well. She gave me hope when I felt like I was going to die. Then when I was so alone, she was there... After me and my family got split up, she was still there. My symbol of hope. For as long as I had something, just something to hold on to, I knew I was going to be fine. I lost my home, my pets, my family, my friends, but what they never could take, was my Shadow. She was always there. Hence the name. She is my hope. When I got severely ill again, she was my hope. She was my will to keep fighting. After indulging in the UTAU community more, I realized I signed up for something bigger than I am, and I liked that. It gave me a sense of purpose... A feeling I never quite knew before.

Now... Three years later I'm healthy and well, and she is too. She's getting her first VCV update on my birthday later this month, and I'm pretty excited.

UTAU taught me hope.

I have got better on composing, recognizing sounds, and I started playing Acoustic Guitar...better than before XD

Well, on other hand, I also learned a lot of English!!! When I come back to my old vids' descriptions I just realized I improved a lot!

I also made a lot of friend here! At first I had even fights with other UTAU users on Youtube, but here on UtaForum I met a bunch of nice friends and friendly users! (Thank you guys!)

Oh, I also started learning Japanese cause of it! I am still very newbie at it, but I am trying my best! XD lol

Also, motivated me to create and edit MMD models...

And motivated me to meet japanese people too...XD

I like UTAU a lot, but I can't say I've gained anything from the program itself simply because I very rarely use it. I certainly think it's amazing for being free and I really enjoy seeing the creative freedom it allows people in terms of pretty much everything.

It's also fun to see all the characters people come up with. I enjoy drawing them in my free time.

Using UTAU has helped me with my anxiety. It's something relaxing that I enjoy doing. I've learned so many new things about music, things that 6 years of piano lessons couldn't teach me.

UTAU has done a lot for me, to be honest. I've learned to read hiragana and katakana, just from constantly working with hiragana-aliased voicebanks and a program UI that's almost entirely in Japanese.

Making UTAU covers and working on music so much has also drastically improved not only my mixing skills, but my ability to "hear" music -- figuring out harmonies, that sort of thing.

I've learned A LOT from utau. I learned to somewhat read hiragana, just overall understand music better, and be able to hear music better. Also, since I've been drawing a ton for other utau people I've learned to draw better but that doesnt really apply to utau but whatev. i've also met a ton of cool people!!! im still shocked I figured out utau all by myself tho

I got a lot better at art. UTAU was just a huge motivation for me to draw more. Seriously though, if you compare the stuff I was doing early 2010 to today, it's amazing.
I got into UTAU pre-English patch, so I learned a bit of Japanese then too. Also learned a lot about pronunciation in general.
